Artificial Turf for RV Parks and Campgrounds

North Georgia is one of the most popular RV and camping destinations in the Southeast, with parks scattered through the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and across the metro Atlanta region. These parks face a unique landscaping challenge: they need attractive, durable ground cover that can handle vehicle weight, constant foot traffic, pet use, and Georgia’s weather extremes—often all in the same day. Artificial turf is becoming the go-to solution for parks that want to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

The RV Park Landscaping Challenge

RV parks operate differently from residential properties. Sites are occupied by heavy vehicles that compact and kill any grass underneath. Guests set up camp with awnings, outdoor rugs, chairs, and grills—all of which stress or shade natural grass. Most RV travelers bring pets, and concentrated pet use in common areas destroys grass quickly. Sites turn over frequently, so there’s no recovery time between guests.

The result at most parks is a familiar pattern: beautiful grass when the season opens in spring, declining through summer, and bare dirt or mud by fall. Winter is even worse—dormant bermudagrass combined with Georgia rain creates brown, muddy conditions that drive negative reviews and reduce bookings.

Where Turf Makes the Most Impact

Smart RV park owners don’t necessarily turf their entire property—they focus on the areas where turf provides the biggest return. Individual pad sites are the most obvious application: a turf pad next to the RV parking area gives guests a clean, green outdoor living space for their entire stay. No mud, no dirt tracked into the RV, no dead grass under their setup.

Common areas and gathering spaces benefit enormously from turf. These high-traffic zones see the most foot traffic and take the most abuse from natural grass. A turf common area stays inviting all season long, encouraging guests to spend time outside and building the community atmosphere that keeps people coming back.

Pet areas are perhaps the highest-impact turf application for RV parks. Designated pet turf zones with proper drainage and antimicrobial infill give pet owners a clean, easy-to-maintain area. Pet-friendly parks consistently rank higher in reviews, and a well-maintained pet area is a significant differentiator.

Entrance and office areas set the first impression. When guests pull in and see a lush green landscape, it immediately signals quality. That first impression influences their entire stay experience and their likelihood of leaving a positive review.

Durability for Commercial Use

RV park installations require commercial-grade turf products rated for heavy use. We specify turf with higher face weight (heavier, denser fibers), stronger backing systems, and more resilient fiber materials than residential products. The base preparation is more robust as well—thicker aggregate, heavier compaction, and enhanced drainage to handle the concentrated use these areas receive.

For pad sites where RV stabilizer jacks and leveling blocks are placed, we install turf rated for point-load pressure. Standard residential turf would crush under this kind of concentrated weight, but commercial products designed for this application handle it without permanent damage.

Revenue Impact

RV parks operate on reputation and reviews. In the age of online booking platforms, the difference between a 4.2 and a 4.7 star rating translates directly to occupancy rates and pricing power. Parks with well-maintained, attractive grounds consistently outperform parks with tired, muddy landscapes. Several park owners we’ve worked with report that their turf installations paid for themselves within 2-3 seasons through increased bookings and the ability to charge premium rates for turfed sites.

Some parks charge a premium for their "premium" sites—the ones with turf pads, concrete patios, and upgraded amenities. The turf pad is often the differentiating feature that justifies a $10-$20/night premium. Over a 200-night season, that’s $2,000-$4,000 per site per year in additional revenue from the turf alone.

Maintenance for Park Operators

Park maintenance staff spend enormous amounts of time on grass care during the season—mowing, edging, fertilizing, repairing damage, and managing irrigation. Turf eliminates all of this. The maintenance requirement for turf common areas is periodic brushing, occasional rinsing, and infill top-off once or twice per year. For pet areas, more frequent rinsing with enzyme cleaners keeps things fresh.

This labor savings is significant for parks that often operate with minimal staff. The hours previously spent on lawn care can be redirected to guest services, facility improvements, and other revenue-generating activities.

Seasonal Advantage

Georgia RV parks that extend their season into late fall and early spring gain a significant revenue advantage. But those shoulder-season months are when natural grass looks its worst—dormant bermudagrass is brown and unappealing. Artificial turf looks the same in November as it does in June, making shoulder-season stays more attractive and helping parks extend their profitable months.
