Synthetic pet turf built right — antimicrobial infill, drain cells, heat-bond seams, perimeter rinse points. Holds up to 5+ dogs and never smells if it's installed correctly.
Pet-turf odor is 100% an installation problem, not a product problem. Smell happens when urine soaks into a sealed sand infill or pools at the backing because there's no drainage. Built right with: antimicrobial Zeofill or T°Cool infill, permeable drainage cell under the turf, perimeter wash spigots, and heat-bonded seams, the system drains and self-flushes. We've got 5+ dog installs that are 8 years in with zero odor.
| Project Tier | Typical Range | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|
| Small dog run (under 200 sq ft) | $3,200–$5,200 | Demo, drain cell, antimicrobial infill, heat-bond seams, perimeter wash |
| Standard pet area (300–600 sq ft) | $5,500–$10,500 | Add drain pipe to daylight, fence-line edging, dual rinse points |
| Large pet zone (700–1,500 sq ft) | $11,000–$22,000 | Multi-zone drainage, multiple wash points, decorative borders |
| Full backyard pet conversion (1,500+ sq ft) | $22,000+ | Whole-yard build, integrated landscape, putting green inset option |
Pet-zone builds run about 10–18% more than non-pet residential installs because of the drain cell, antimicrobial infill, and rinse plumbing. Worth every dollar if you have dogs — the cheap version smells within 6 months.
Properly built pet turf needs minimal but consistent care:
| Frequency | Action |
|---|---|
| Daily | Pick up solids — same as on grass |
| Weekly | Hose-down rinse — 5 minutes with the perimeter spigot |
| Monthly | Enzymatic spray (Simple Green Outdoor or similar) on heavy-traffic spots |
| Quarterly | Power brush to lift fibers and refresh infill |
| Annually | Top up infill if heavy use; check seams |
We offer a maintenance contract for $0.45–$0.85/sq ft/year that covers all of the above plus deep-flush quarterly. Common for HOAs, dog daycares, and clients with 4+ dogs.

Built with drain cell + antimicrobial infill + perimeter rinse + heat-bond seams: no. We have installs with 4–6 dogs that are 5+ years in with zero odor. The key is the drainage system, not the yarn.
On a properly compacted GAB base, no. The base is harder than dirt — most dogs give up after one or two attempts. For aggressive diggers, we add an extra geotextile layer under the turf as a deterrent.
Cooler than concrete or pavers, warmer than grass. T°Cool infill drops surface temp 15–20°F. For dogs that lay in direct sun, we recommend either T°Cool or a shade structure over the relief zone.
Small dog runs: 1–2 working days. Standard pet zones: 2–4 days. Full backyard: 5–10 days depending on size and integration.
Enzymatic sprays help on hot spots. They're not a replacement for proper drainage. If your existing turf needs spray every week to mask odor, the install is the problem — we can rebuild it.
15-Year Platinum Promise on yarn, seams, and base. Antimicrobial infill carries a separate manufacturer guarantee.
