Court Sizes — Half-Court vs Full-Court

Residential basketball courts come in three sizes. Driveway half-court (15'x20' to 20'x25'): single hoop, free-throw area, no three-point arc. Best for small yards and casual shooting. Standard half-court (30'x35' to 35'x40'): full key, three-point arc, free-throw line. The most common residential build. Full-court (50'x84' for high-school regulation, 60'x90' with safety run-off): two hoops, full markings, requires a larger lot. Most Georgia backyards accommodate a standard half-court; only estate-grade properties have room for full-court.

Surface Options: Concrete, Sport-Tile, Sport-Turf

Acrylic-coated concrete ($14-$22/sq ft): the classic basketball surface. Fast bounce, durable, professional feel. Lasts 5-7 years before needing acrylic re-coat. Hot in summer (140°F+ direct sun). Hard on joints. Modular sport tile ($16-$28/sq ft): plastic lock-together tiles over concrete or asphalt sub-base. Lower joint impact than concrete, replaceable tile-by-tile if damaged. Lasts 15+ years. Sport-face turf ($18-$30/sq ft): softest underfoot, coolest in summer, best for combining with multi-sport line sets (pickleball, tennis, basketball on one surface). Slightly slower ball bounce than concrete or tile. Lasts 15+ years.

Pricing — Backyard Half-Court (2026 Georgia)

Driveway half-court (acrylic over existing concrete): $4,500-$8,500. Standard half-court (35'x40' on prepared base): $18,000-$32,000 turn-key. With LED lighting: add $3,500-$6,500. Hoops, Backboards, and Mounting

Adjustable-height in-ground hoops (7.5-10 ft) are standard on residential builds — lets kids start low and adjust up as they grow. Tournament-grade glass backboards (54"-72" wide) with breakaway rims are common upgrades. Pole anchored 36" deep in concrete footing for stability against rim hangs. We install Goalrilla, Goalsetter, and Mammoth-brand systems most often; all carry manufacturer warranties.

Multi-Sport Conversion — Hoops + Pickleball + Tennis

The highest-ROI build for households with mixed-age athletes: multi-sport surface with basketball half-court + pickleball court + mini-tennis lines on a 24'x52' surface. Sport-face turf handles all three sports. Factory-inlaid line sets for each sport in different colors (basketball red, pickleball white, tennis yellow) so visual confusion is minimal. Total premium over single-sport build: $4,000-$8,000.

Lighting for Evening Play

LED court lighting is the highest-value add-on. Two pole-mounted fixtures (one each end of the court) at 8,000-15,000 lumens deliver 200-300 lux of usable evening light. Timer control on a wall switch or smart-home integration. $3,500-$6,500 installed. Most homeowners use the court 3-5x more often after adding lighting.

Maintenance

Sport-face turf basketball courts: brush quarterly, top up infill annually, hose down monthly in summer. Acrylic concrete courts: re-coat every 5-7 years ($3,500-$6,500). Modular tile: replace damaged tiles individually ($25-$40 per tile). All three surfaces are lower-maintenance than a dirt or grass driveway hoop area.

HOA Considerations

Most Georgia HOAs allow backyard basketball courts when properly designed.
